Look out for more info on the #music AOTY this week.

Fill me in…

The chat about Chet Faker and Marcus Marr spanned multiple channels as they dropped an EP a couple weeks ago by the name of Work. General fans of emerging musicians have probably heard of and know Chet Faker well, but the same may not be true for Marcus Marr. The clearly talented DJ/Producer who hails from Brixton, London is not brand new to the scene; he first explored dance music rooted in acid house, soundtracked the intro to a Versace fashion show in 2013 and now is working with Chet. Well done sir...

Over in #soul, a tune we’re liking by Omar is soundtracking unofficial fashion shows on beach boardwalks everywhere. He’s signed to the UK label, Freestyle Records, which has received praise from the likes of Mr Scruff and Quantic for its selection of latin, soul, funk, breaks, jazz, etc. Omar is no exception to the trend as this jam called, ‘The Man’ will hook you:

What else is going on?

1) What record costs $2 million dollars? 2) Who buys a $2 million dollar record? The album: Once Upon A Time In Shaolin - Wu-Tang Clan. The buyer: “Douchebag pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli”. You may have heard a story about this guy raising the price of a drug used by AIDS and cancer patients from $13.50 to $750 overnight and feeling pretty good about it. “Wu-Tang is for the children”...

Speaking of vinyl getting expensive, apparently its production is somewhat backlogged as we haven’t seen a “newly-manufactured vinyl pressing machine in more than 30 years”. Das ist alles bald ändern. Or, ‘that’s all about to change’, says German-based machinery company NEWBILT who is manufacturing the machines that press vinyl. More on that here.

Don’t sleep on…

Oxnard, CA native, Anderson .Paak. The rapper/producer found the mainstream with a couple appearances in Dr. Dre’s last album Compton, but he still holds his own fan base rooted in Stones Throw followers. Probably  his most popular track to date is ‘Suede’, which he did in collaboration with Knxledge and gives us a good taste of what we’re likely to expect in his upcoming album Malibu.
