For the week of November 22nd, 2015

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming info about a #music Album of The Year poll...

Fill me in…

#hiphop was the channel this week. And it seems we’ve come full circle with the DC rapper Goldlink. The very first sound posted to #hiphop almost a year ago was a Goldlink song and he’s recently released his first official album: And After That, We Didn’t Talk. Since beginning he seemed to sound perfect on beats by the likes of KAYTRANADA and Louie Lastic, successfully blending dance and #hiphop. Here’s “Zipporah” off the new album:

No lack of convo over in #indie either. The first track of the week that got some love was a song called “Petals” by the UK artist Bibio. His sound has been described as folktronica and you really only understand that description once you listen. He’s behind the music in commercials for Amazon, L.L. Bean, Toyota, Adult Swim and Google...I guess they all have good taste. He’s coming out with a new album in Spring so hold tight. Until then, here’s “Petals”:

What else is going on?

Lesson of the week: when you’re a musician and you want to do good, you can always donate music. The Eagles of Death Metal did just that for their song “I Love You All The Time”. In their words, “Our label will donate the mastering and all the publishing. Also, I would challenge iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Tidal; whomever delivers music to get on board and if that song is recorded to donate all of it so the entirety is designated to help anyone that was a victim of this Paris attack and ruined by this to recover again.”

In other news, Marvel Comics did a little something for the #hiphop heads who love #bandposters by releasing a comic book featuring artistic takes on album artwork from classical hip hop albums. It comes available on January 6 in “participating” stores and below is preview of one cover. More info on that here.

Don’t sleep on…

Sticking with #hiphop from DC...Oddisee. He’s not new to the game by any definition, but if you haven’t heard of him, it might be time to wake up. He popped on many people’s radars after the success of his most recent album, The Good Fight. With Oddisee’s music, there’s rarely ever a moment where you question the soul he puts into his work. Here’s the first song off the latest album:
