GREETINGS!

First off: Since we started the #music community, we've had an absolute blast watching the community grow and have loved listening to the music you guys have shared. For that: THANK YOU!

The purpose of #music has always been to bring the biggest music heads together in one place to share, discover and have meaningful conversations around quality music with each other. We're the type of listeners who can spend hours digging deep in the crate to find the perfect sound and as we pass 500 members, we want to let everyone know that we're determined to stay true to the mission. In remaining loyal to the people who've shaped the community, feel free to drop us a note if you sense too much bullsh*t floating around and we'll do whatever it takes to make sure the integrity of the community is not compromised.

Secondly: Welcome to The Needle! Every week, we'll round up the best of what the #music community was talking about (along with news from the world of music in general) and deliver straight to your inbox.

We hope you enjoy!
For the week of June 7, 2015

Fill me in…

This past week, there was a good amount of buzz on the #deep-house channel. Particularly, seems like folks are excited about Bob Moses’ new release, “Talk”, from the forthcoming album set to release later this year. The duo is currently signed to Domino Records, which also houses The Arctic Monkeys, Hot Chip, Animal Collective and Blood Orange to name a few.

Also with some activity, the #chill channel was blessed with five new tracks. In our opinion, the e.s.t.a. track is definitely something to check out. S/O to a true #music OG, @davehawkins for this one!

What else is going on?

If you haven’t yet heard the waaves about Apple Music, get out from under the rock. In its latest WWDC, Apple unveiled it’s new music streaming service that’s aiming to bring streaming, social and radio under the same roof. It’s success is yet to be seen, but at least they’ve realized personal curation is better than algorithms when it comes to discovery.

Don’t Sleep on…

Gotta give @alex props for introducing the community to Hiatus Kaiyote back in March. Their most recent album, Choose Your Weapon, speaks to the incredible talent that the Australian group possesses. Looks like they’ve broken through the underground with their recent performance on Jimmy Kimmel, but we still can’t wait to hear future releases. Up to this point, everyone that’s listened has been digging the sound which seems to blend soulful influences with non-traditional stylings to top it off. Here’s a nice rework by DJ Spinna of their track “Breathing Underwater”. Galactic Soul anyone?
