GREETINGS!

Over in the #meta channel, we're chatting about ways to flood the #music community with more activity. We've got some interesting ideas, but need all the help we can get.

Don't be shy.
For the week of June 14, 2015

Fill me in…

Once again, the #chill channel came in hot last week, but they got love on the last edition of The Needle, so we’re going to spread it around. @jasondsimmons got us off to a good start with #tech-house giving us a bunch of tracks to be wary of; the very first sound being “Wir” by Stephan Bodzin of his newly released album, “Powers of Ten”.

Jazz lovers enjoyed a nice revival of activity on the #jazz channel. The late jazz great, Ornette Coleman, was remembered and we had an opportunity to hear some music from Pharoah Sanders, whom Mr. Coleman regarded as “probably the best tenor player in the world”. It turns out Astral Traveling was the thing to do in the seventies…

What else is going on?

Apple Music is still hogging the attention thanks to various indie labels and Taylor Swift speaking out about not getting paid during the 3-month free trial period. Anton Newcombe even went as far as tweeting “...fuck these satanic corporations” in response to Apple apparently threatening to take his music off of iTunes. It looks like everyone can calm down now though, as the “satanic corporation” has agreed to pay up during the free trial period.

I’m glad that’s over. Can we get back to music?

Don’t Sleep on…

One of my personal favorites, Quantic, is set to release a new album entitled, “A New Constellation” at the tail-end of this month. He’s originally from the UK, but moved to Cali, Colombia in 2007 after a visit gave him a glimpse into the dense Salsa, Afro-Antillian and eventual Cumbia music scene the city has to offer. Here's a taste of what to expect off of his upcoming album.
