Fill me in…

#indie came in clutch this week serving up some new sounds. Two of them come from the quickly rising artist, Rationale, who looks to be joining the South London labed, Best Laid Plans. The label is brand new, but it seems like they’ve made a promising bet with Rationale as his track, “Fast Lane” aired on Beats1 Radio last week. S/O @clcmusic for sharing:

As usual, there was a good amount of activity in both #electronic and #chill, but a channel I believe can sometimes harness some of the best of those both is #lounge_nudisco. If you like dancing, @abvp has got a recommendation for you:

What else is going on?

There’s been a lot of buzz around Tame Impala’s upcoming album, “Currents”...and for good reason. The Aussie who does it all, Kevin Parker, sounds like he’s at the top of his game and a line off of the biography says it perfectly: “A genre-bending soundscape fuelled equally by curiosity as it is consciousness, it’s exhilarating new territory for Tame Impala.” The new album is set to release this Friday, Jul. 17, but NPR isn’t making us wait until then.

Don’t sleep on…

One of the best ways to connect with a past generation is through music and for many, #jazz is the expressway. Even though it may have already experienced its heyday in popularity, I’m sure the genre can be proud to claim the 34 year-old saxophonist out of Los Angeles, Kamasi Washington.  Achieving a sound that doesn’t seem the least bit removed from jazz’s peak, Washington has played alongside notable artists such as Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Chaka Khan, Flying Lotus and more.
