For the week of July 19, 2015

Don't forget to check out some convo along with shitty photos of Capitol Hill Block Party over on #live_performaces. A more detailed recap (w/ some slightly better photos) of the festival can be found on The Needle's archive.

Fill me in…

The #electronic channel never stops...last week, the first sound shared was a jam by Dutch artist, Hunee who appears to be signed to the Rush Hour label based in the same country. His latest album, Hunch Music, is downright enjoyable in my opinion - even if you’re not the biggest electronic fan, it seems like there’s at least one track for everyone. Big ups to @newmerator for putting us on to it.

Hunee - Hiding the Moon

The #future channel has yet to be spotlighted in The Needle, but I think now’s a good time. One of my favorites from the week is a track completely full of energy that @jessie unearthed for us by a dude named K R N E from the beautiful state of California. This track is not for the faint-hearted; in true Oakland fashion.

What else is going on?

There was a little hip-hop drama last week. Wu-tang legend, Ghostface Killah recently released a follow-up collab album (Twelve Reasons to Die II) with one of my favorite producers, Adrian Younge, but it looks like it wasn’t enough for Action Bronson. On SportsNation, Bronson stated that Ghost’s music isn’t really relevant anymore and Ghostface had some choice words about it. The two rappers have been compared ever since Bronson emerged and Bronson has since apologized for his comment, but it looks like he was unsuccessful in convincing Ghostface so I guess we’ll have to leave it at that.

Also, Kanye West must not have been too stoked with the shotput performances at this year’s Pan Am Games in Canada and decided to give it a try himself. After the sound cut out mid-performance at the closing ceremony, Kanye was a little upset (understandably) and thought tossing the mic in the air as high as he could would help resolve the technical issue...don’t think it worked.

Don’t sleep on…

Last weekend was the Capitol Hill Block Party here in Seattle (full recap over in The Needle’s archive) and we were finally able to check out the incredibly talented individuals from Toronto, BADBADNOTGOOD. As expected, they absolutely awed the small-ish crowd and no-doubt picked up some more devoted listeners. They’ve already gained a good bit of popularity, but I believe these dudes will remain relevant for a long time (given Action Bronson’s approval, of course). Whatever you do, don’t sleep on BADBADNOTGOOD.
