Fill me in…

There was a bunch of activity over in #grime this week...big ups to London. Looks like anyone peeping into the scene should get familiar with the names Jme and Skepta. Skepta’s latest album, Konnichiwa, dropped this past March and his single, “Shutdown” has been pleasing fans as well as the folks who created a recent Beats commercial.

Members of #asongaday have been vocalizing their appreciation lately. The creator, @shannon rarely misses a beat when it comes to sharing the day’s track to the community. Her curation service, A Song A Day, delivers a hand-picked track to your inbox Monday through Friday so you can bet there’s no shortage of sweet sounds to check out in that channel. Here’s the latest:

What else is going on?

When Kendrick Lamar released To Pimp a Butterfly, the hip-hop heads took to the channel to try and decipher the dense album. Even though it’s practically impossible to digest every verse without the help of RapGenius, most can agree that the album will be relevant 50 years from now. This past week, Kendrick dropped the music video for “Alright” giving us some visuals to help understand his messages, but he’s still not spelling it all out for us. You might need to watch it a couple times…or hear what the director, Colin Tilley, has to say.

From what I’ve heard, it looks like people are quite happy with Apple Music so far, especially Beats1 Radio. Let’s see how long they can keep the radio station fresh and exciting. Feel free to drop your thoughts and join the convo on #apple-music.

Don’t sleep on…

Fans of #latin music seem to be enjoying the rise of Cuban singer, Daymé Arocena. I guess we can thank GIlles Peterson and the rest of those involved in the Havana Cultura Mix project for bringing her on board after she wow'd the crew in her audition. Mr. Peterson later signed her to his label, Brownswood, and she’s been impressing new listeners ever since. Nice choice, @tedw - such a great sounding piece:
