For the week of August 16, 2015

Fill me in…

Brazil is in the house! There aren't too many of us over in #brazilian, but we came with the sounds this week. In helping one of the OG #music members, @pedronunes put together a set, I think we compiled a good list of music for y’all to check out. If you haven’t wandered over to the channel, now is probably the time. I’m sure you’ll be hearing a whole lot more music from Brazil in the coming months ;) #RIO2016

I have no idea where Piaui is, but it’s just made my destination list:

Juca Chaves - Take Me Back To Piaui

Staying with regions, the #australian channel is slowly coming back to life. We’ve always loved the music put out by the Aussies and thanks to @df, we know have another group to add to the list. The duo goes by Slum Sociable and they define their sound as “Lo Fo [sic], washed-out, Jazz hop”. If that doesn’t spark your interest, try getting through this video without wondering what the hell is going on.

What else is going on?

There was some conversation in #general about music documentaries and a new one in the works (not Straight Outta Compton) made some music headlines this week. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood is putting together an album with an Israeli composer, Shye Ben Tzur in India. Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood) is directing the film which focuses on the album creation journey the artists are undergoing. The film, entitled Junun will be released at the New York Film Festival this year. More on that here.

Video quality on the film will hopefully be better than this clip of the duo playing live, but the audio suffices to get the point across.

Carli Ray Jepsen released a new album last week called E-MO-TION. Listen...maybe (sorry - it was too easy). #guilty-pleasures might get crowded soon.

Don’t sleep on…

In #classical, @revrev shared with us a clip of Ben Folds telling the story behind one of his recent compositions. He’s set to release a new album entitled So There which will be available on Sep. 11. Little insights like the ones below definitely can grab people’s attention and let listeners know how much actually goes behind the composition of music. Ben Folds has officially been added to the radar.
