For the week of July 26, 2015

Fill me in…

I have to give credit where credit is due and @shannon’s selection had folks talking about this tune across a couple channels. S/O to @velvor for showcasing this #hidden-gem by Júníus Meyvant off of his recently released EP. Hailing from Iceland, Mr. Meyvant is pretty new to the scene and dropped this song as his debut single in 2014, but coupled it together with some more songs (equally as smooth sounding) for this EP that came out on July 17th. Hope you guys enjoy, “Color Decay”:

In continuing to spread the love around, we’re going to shine a light on the #rnb channel. An OG #music member, @davehawkins, shared some fresh and energetic R&B last week by the London singer, Dornik. Already signed to the big boys at Island Records, he’s got the tools necessary to soar but the music has got to be good. In my opinion, modern funk beats rarely sound this smooth and his R&B vocals bring it all together for something you can listen to more than once.

What else is going on?

Dick Dale is embarking on a 25-city tour across the US! While this may make all men wearing “Old Guys Rule” shirts jump with joy - not so fast. Unfortunately, the beloved artist who crafted the sound of the surf scene in the ‘60s and ‘70s is doing so to pay for medical expenses he needs to stay alive. He’s touring with rectal cancer, renal failure, diabetes and massive vertebrae damage...oh boy. Sad, but at the same time motivating - I hope all fans can come together to show support.

Lollapalooza in Chicago happened this past weekend and I don’t know too much about what went on, but something specific caught my eye that I thought was a bit funny. Apparently those who viewed the Brooklyn group, Wet, perform, felt the same as we did when we saw them perform at Capitol Hill Block Party. Hard to explain, but some dude at Consequence of Sound knows what’s up.

Lastly, I can’t write about music news without mentioning that Quantic dropped his album, A New Constellation, last week...just saying.

Don’t sleep on…

I have no idea how long these guys have been around for, but don’t sleep on them because they have an awesome name, an awesome album cover and these Aussies can rock. I present to you: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s album, “I’m In Your Mind Fuzz”:
