For the week of August 16, 2015

Fill me in…

Two words: #disco-_-funkyness. Not sure why, but we all got groovy this past week as it was the most active channel...and nobody is complaining. If you didn’t get a chance to hit the dance floor this past weekend, @mcatalino dropped something in the channel for you to get your steps ready for the next one. Chemise (husband and wife duo) released the track in ‘82 and it screams disco. On Discogs, a hell of a lot more people want a copy than the amount of people who own one - I’ll let the music speak for itself.

Chemise - She Can't Love You

#techno heads: @cfdrake shared a mix by Dungeon Acid you guys can get down to. Apparently the dude puts on a mighty live set that far surpasses pressing play. If that doesn’t impress you, how about a set on the back of a moving truck? He’s been in the game for a long time and was involved with the Stonefunkers, whose music ranged from funk to hip-hop. Here’s his live set from Dresden, Germany:

What else is going on?

The VMAs went on Sunday night and there’s a lot that could be written about it, but more important than the VMAs is the 20th Air Guitar World Championship. Last week, the talented air guitarist that goes by “Your Daddy” was crowned with the title and let every air guitarist out there know that this is not a game anymore. Watch the Russian go:

The album which houses the greatest song of all time (according to Rolling Stone) turned 50 this past week. The song: “Like a Rolling Stone”; the album: Highway 61 Revisited; the artist: Bob Dylan. A lot of people are aware of lasting impact Bob Dylan had on rock and music in general, but many fewer have given the album a listen from front to back. I think now’s a good time.

Don’t sleep on…

Some smooth sounding #rnb is coming back and DESTINY, better known as Princess Nokia (I think) is turning heads. It’s still a bit confusing to me, but there’s a lot of good music coming out of a NY collective she founded, SMART GIRL CLUB. You’ll quickly realize that they’re not just making music for the hell of it. Definitely out of the ordinary...definitely worth checking out. S/O to @davehawkins for putting us on to it:
