Fill me in…

With Kanye stealing the music spotlight for a week straight, we’re glad to be able to bring you some non-Kanye music out of #hiphop from this past week. @staxwell put us on to a song released as a 7” in collaboration with a small label called Akashic Records...a play upon the Sanskrit term which refers to the collection of thoughts, events and emotions encoded in a non-physical plane (or something like that). The label has some type of relationship with Stones Throw, which has a relationship with Mndsgn and Nanna B., who released the song entitled ‘Akasha’. Don’t worry about keeping up the relationship status of the people/labels involved; the important part is below:

Mndsgn & Nanna B. - Akasha

Any blip on the activity radar in #brazilian is worthy of sharing in our opinion. Especially when the sound of Brazil is unmistakably present in the shared sound. Big ups to @jpgomes for giving us one of Rodrigo Amarante’s gems, ‘Maná‘. Rodrigo Amarante is from Rio de Janeiro and has worked with fellow Brazilian icons such as Tom Zé and Gilberto Gil...the energy he brings to the table is real and recognized. This is one of those tunes you may have heard before, but never knew where it came from:

What else is going on?

You don’t have to look too hard if you want to get updated on what’s going on with Kanye’s new album, The Life of Pablo. It keeps on getting delayed, it looks like he’s in debt $53 Million (and asking Mark Zuckerberg for help) and now it might never be for sale. Awesome.

SoundCloud might want to ask Zuck for money too as things aren’t looking good for them either. After posting $44 Million in losses, they’re drawing plenty of scrutiny from grapevine. There’s more on that here.

Don’t sleep on…

One of the individuals in the love triangle mentioned up top: producer, Mndsgn. He recently teamed up with Swedish #hiphop artist, Ivan Ave and released an album this past week called Helping Hands that definitely resonates with more than just #hiphop heads. Under his own name, Mndsgn has only released one studio album (via Stones Throw), but has a steady amount of music output via EP’s, compilations, production work on other albums and singles. As one of those producers whose music sounds complete without lyrics on top, we consider him more than just a beat maker. He’s been releasing music since ‘09, but don’t expect him to be closing up shop anytime soon. Here’s a song off the album he produced for Ivan Ave called, ‘The Circle’:
