For the week of March 13th, 2016

Fill me in…

It’s probably not news to anybody that #electronic may have seen the most activity this past week. But it’s always good to see people gravitate to an artist from multiple channels over the span of a couple months. This time, it was an artist out of Peru named Nicola Cruz. Music from his latest album, Prender el Alma first appeared on #latin a bit back and last week, another song from that album, called “Colibria”, dropped on #electronic. This music video really isn’t necessary to make you think you’re stepping through a jungle, but it’s worth checking out anyways.

We chatted it up a good bit on #hiphop last week with conversations that dripped over from #music_dna. S/O to @staxwell for dropping knowledge. Much of the talk was around Tennessee rapper, Isaiah Rashad. According To a dude named David Jeffries, Isaiah wanted to be a preacher until he stumbled upon a copy of Outkast’s album ATLiens that belonged to his stepbrother. Ever since then, he’s been putting his efforts in a direction all of us are thankful for and has since landed in the TDE family; home to Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-soul, Jay Rock and SZA. This song, “R.I.P. Kevin Miller” goes out the deceased brother of Master P.

What else is going on?

Soundcloud is telling haters to buzz off as they’ve just signed a deal with the last major label they needed to begin offering a paid service: Sony. Independent music + signed artists, all on one platform? This could get interesting… News was broken on Verge.

Kanye probably doesn’t care either way, but he might like to know that Sydney natives have had an awesome rendition of the rapper(s?) to look at while walking on Teggs Lane. Good on ya, Sydney.

Don’t sleep on…

Brainfeeder’s latest signee, Jameszoo. Hailing from The Netherlands, this artist takes uniqueness in sound and makes it feel like something meant to be. In our opinion, he’s a perfect fit for Brainfeeder which was founded by Flying Lotus and now houses Kamasi Washington, The Gaslamp Killer, Thundercat and more. This one will grow on you for sure. It’s off of an upcoming album due in May called Fool...expect that to be just the beginning.
