#043: For the week of March 27, 2016

Apologies for the massive delay but we found the time to put together some music from #042 together for yall. Have a listen here

Fill me in…

This past week, the power channels did not disappoint. First, @ethan dropped the latest Mat Zo release on us in #electronic in case it had slipped anyone’s radar. The Self Assemble album was released on March 25 and will be a success if it reaches near the level of acclaim as his first album, Damage Control. That album was nominated for a Grammy and reached #7 on the dance charts in the US. If that’s not enough indication for the skill the dude’s got, here’s some ‘Soul Food’ for you:

On to #indie, we see that SUB-POP Records remains a staple to good music as @velvor unearths a song by The Head and the Heart from 2013 for us. Accompanied by an “Official Lyric Video” that is more entertaining than many music videos, “Another Story” should get the feels going for everyone as we (in the northern hemisphere) slowly approach summer. S/O to Seattle: the home of The Head and the Heart and the most appreciated summer worldwide.

What else is going on?

Hopefully you weren’t planning on listening to Radiohead’s B-Sides on your streaming service of choice this week. You won’t find them because the catalogue transferred from WMG to XL, but let's hope they figure out a way to give the Radiohead heads what they need soon. More on that here.

Also, hopefully you weren’t planning a picnic on Melrose and Fairfax in LA over the weekend. YG and Nipsey Hussle got the community involved in their music video shoot for “Fuck Donald Trump” and the cops weren’t invited so they decided to crash the party. In case you weren’t able to attend, the party was well documented on instagram and there are some videos on Pitchfork.

In some better news, you no longer have to be a TIDAL subscriber to listen to Kanye’s TLOP.

Don’t sleep on…

#rnb in 2016. Specifically, an artist that goes by the name of Gallant. @cmyk put us on to a First Listen courtesy of NPR and we’re guessing everyone's ‘first listen’ won't be their last. The Maryland native can flat out sing and turned plenty of heads at SXSW. Gallant has collaborated with Sufjan Stevens a couple times before and brings on Jhené Aiko for a feature on one of the songs on Ology which drops today. People are liking ‘Weight in Gold’ so far...
